EXPEDITION 5300 leader
Samuel Vergès, leader of the EXPEDITION 5300 project, is a doctor of physiology and a former top-level athlete. Inserm researcher in the Hypoxia and cardiovascular and respiratory pathophysiology (HP2) laboratory at the University of Grenoble-Alpes, he has published numerous international scientific articles. He is President of EXALT (Centre of Expertise on Altitude) and has led many scientific expeditions at high altitude.
His expertise focuses on factors limiting exercise performance in patients and healthy subjects, the mechanisms of neuromuscular fatigue and hypoxia, as well as the use of exercise training as a therapeutic intervention.
Samuel is also a former high-level biathlete. This mountain lover nowadays enjoys cross-country skiing and trail riding, especially over long distances.
